Philanthus triangulum - The Bee-wolf

Also known as the bee-wolf, Philanthus triangulum is a large and spectacular solitary wasp. It nests in sandy places and preys on honeybees. Once considered very rare, it now seems to be increasing its range and abundance. Both sexes are mainly black and yellow. Males are smaller than females and have a characteristic white "coronet" marking on the face.
