Osmia leaiana

Osmia leaiana together with Osmia caerulescens is one of the two small Osmia bees that may regularly be found in gardens. In the UK it is restricted to England and Wales. On the wing May to August. Nests in walls, cliff and old wood; using chewed leaves to construct the brood cell divisions and to seal the nest opening.

The female is dark brown with a bright orange scopa under the abdomen. In Osmia caerulescens the scopa is black. The metallic green males of Osmia leaiana and Osmia caerulescens are very difficult to tell apart.
