Nomada leucophthalma

A rather dark and fairy large Nomada that is common and widespread in the UK. It parasitises Andrena clarkella and the rare Andrena apicata. It has a dark thorax with two red spots and a red band on the abdomen. The antennae are dark red with an orange tip.

It is similar in appearance to Nomada flava (and others) but appears early (early march - mid May) and an appearance at this time and in association with its host Andrena, can give you a reasonably confident identification.
