Chelostoma campanularum
The Harebell Carpenter Bee- Chelostoma campanularum is a common and widespread solitary bee in England, but not recorded in Wales, Scotland and Ireland. On the wing June- August where it is attracted to harebell (Campanula species) flowers. A very small, black bee; both sexes being 5-6 mm long and about 1mm wide. The male has a two-pronged "peg" on the tip of the abdomen, used to help hold on when resting/roosting in flowers. Female has a white pollen scopa under the abdomen.
